Volleyball is a sport played by two teams of six players on a court. The teams usually try to defend and set up an attack. It is played until one side wins by at least two points. Points are awarded by hitting, passing, or setting. Most games last between three and five sets. They may last for a shorter time if there is a high level of play.

The attack line divides a volleyball court into two equal sections, or zones. The "weak" half of the court can be called the "weak". This side is for right-handed spikers. The other half is for lefty spikers.

Each player on a team has a designated position. The front-row consists of three players, and the back-row consists of three players. The spiker is contacted by the ball and the front-row leaps in front of the opposing player. Players can also take advantage of the "A," "B," "C," "D," or "Pipe" and the "Bic" to intercept a spiked ball.

Serving requires that a player stands behind the line of service, usually 3m long, between the baseline line and the end. Serves can be made overhand or underhand. The serving team has a better chance of winning points if they serve overhand. The service area was increased to 9m in 1996 Olympics.

According to volleyball rules, a ball cannot be blocked by a player if it's being served. Also, the server can't step on the service line until after he or she has struck the ball.

A player may hit the ball as many times as three times after their first hit. A foul occurs when a player hits it twice in a row. A volleyball rule states that no one player may hit the ball more often than once.

On an attack, a back-row player hits the ball from behind the attack line, which is a line that separates the attack and back-row positions. The back-row player cannot block or hit the ball higher than the net. It is also against the law for a back row player to attack the ball if the ball is within the offensive line.

Back-row players serve the spiked ball, which is then thrown over the net. If the ball lands on the wall, on the referee's stand, or on the antennae, it is out of play.

The volleyball game is over once there has been a point. If the defense makes an error, the offensive team wins. However, if the defense commits an error, the opponent will score.

The point will be over and the players will then be rotated around on the court. There can only be six players on the court at one time. Rotations must be done counterclockwise with three people in front and three behind. Each set can only have two time-outs.
